Implants FAQ’S

Implants FaqsMost of the patients considering Implants treatment understandably have questions about their treatment options. Here we offer answer to some of the more common queries. Dr. Sadineni can further address your concerns during a face-to-face consultation.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are designed to replace the root of a tooth and restore the physical appearance and the chewing function of patients with partial or full tooth loss. Dental implants are intended for use in either the upper and/or the lower jaw to support replacement teeth. By integrating with the jaw, the implants enable restorations that range from replacement of one single tooth to an entire arch, or as stabilizing elements
for overdenture applications.

Dublin Metro Dental offers dental implants in Dublin, Ohio. The procedure will be performed by our experienced Implant Dentist Dr. Sadineni.

Who is a candidate for dental implants?

Anyone who is missing one or more (even all) of their teeth may be a candidate for implants. If one or a few of the teeth are missing, implants in conjunction with a crown or bridge can replace those teeth and function as normal teeth without losing more bone and being subject to decay. If all or most of your teeth are missing, then implants may be placed to fix a full mouth denture.

Why should I consider a dental implant?

Dental implants are a long term solution designed to look, feel and function like natural teeth and allow you the freedom to
enjoy eating and physical activity again. In addition, dental implants provide a solution that avoids damage to surrounding teeth. And, most treatment can be completed in as little as one day minimizing your down time. Learn more on our dental implants page.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants look, feel, and function just like real teeth, and can last a lifetime with proper care.

  • Dental implant restorations never decay.
  • Dental implants prevent the side effects of tooth loss – namely, gum recession, bone loss, and speech difficulties.
  • Dental implants restore proper chewing and the full strength of your bite.
  • Dental implants are comfortable and convenient.
  • Unlike other dental restorations such as bridges, dental implants do not require the grinding down of the teeth on each side of the gap.
  • Thanks to immediate dental implant technology, Dr. Sadineni may be able to place your implants the same day as your extraction!
What is involved in getting dental implants?

Dr. Sadineni, Implant dentist Dublin, Ohio uses 3D CAT scan for treatment planning, and CEREC to manufacture and fit your new teeth to be placed the same day as the dental implants, greatly reducing treatment times.

Is the dental implant procedure painful?

As with any surgical procedure there can be some pain associated with the dental implant procedure, but Dr. Sadineni, Implant dentist Dublin Ohio and her expert team will do as much as they can to minimize the pain.

Once the implants are placed, your new teeth are fixed to the implants, and do not rest on your gums. This can mean less pain than traditional dentures or other treatment approaches, and shorter duration of discomfort

What if there is not enough bone or gum tissue for the dental implant?

A graft may be needed if Dr. Sadineni, implant dentist at Dublin Metro Dental determines there is not sufficient bone or gum tissue.

What is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is a simple procedure designed to regenerate missing bone in the jaw. Grafts of bone are placed within the jaw where there is an insufficient amount of bone through a short surgical procedure. Over a healing, these bone grafts are absorbed by the jaw and contribute to the formation of new bone cells. The grafts convert to new, living bone cells, replacing the bone loss caused by missing teeth or periodontal disease.

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is a simple surgical procedure performed on patients whose sinus cavities are too close to the jaw bone for the successful placement of implants. In order for the dental implants to be placed, Dr. Sadineni, implant dentist at Dublin Metro Dental will gently lift the sinuses away from the upper jawbone. Once there is an adequate amount of space between the maxillary sinuses and the jaw, grafts of bone may be used and dental implants can be placed. Over time, the bone grafts are absorbed by the jaw, contributing to the formation of new bone cells. The grafts convert to new, living bone cells, replacing the bone loss caused by missing teeth or periodontal disease.

How All-on-4 Implants different form other implants

All on 4 implants are actually similar to the normal screw-like implants you will find being used in many implant procedures, but what makes the All on 4 method so unique is how the implants are positioned at a specific angle in the jaw bone. Two implants at the front of the mouth will be positioned at the normal angle of 90 degrees, while the two implants at the back of the mouth will be placed at a 45 degree angle. This means that more bone is utilised in the stabilisation and support of the implant, allowing for a whole set of teeth to be replaced rather than fewer teeth.

What are the advantages of the All-on-4 method?

Same Day Teeth offers the patient a wealth of benefits, including:

  • Renews a youthful appearance through bone level stabilization
  • It is possible to begin eating shortly after the procedure.
  • Restores the ability to eat all types of foods
  • The All-on-4 implant system is less painful than other procedures.
  • The All-on-4 dental implant technique can be completed in just a single day.
What happens during the all-on-4 procedure?

The implants will be inserted into the jaw bone, of which the two at the front of the mouth will be placed at the normal angle of 90 degrees and the two at the back of the mouth at the angle of 45 degrees. This is done to maximise linkage to the intact bone structure of the jaw. Abutments will then be joined to the implants, which are components that link the implants to the bridge or denture to be used, on which the new teeth will be attached. Adjustments may be made to ensure they fit correctly and your overall comfort. This is a great deal less invasive and protracted procedure compared to the traditional implant technique.

What will happen without treatment?

When you lose your teeth, you gradually lose the bone that supported them. As this bone disappears, problems with other teeth nearby and a lack of support for dentures, partials and bridges increase. These could include pain, mobility, lack of retention for prosthetics, sharp, painful ridges, mobile gum tissue and sore spots. The tongue enlarges to accommodate spaces of missing teeth. With tooth loss, a five-fold decrease in function occurs and the diet shifts to softer foods. Also, when bone is lost, numbness to the lower lip or even the possibility of fracture of the jaw rises. Since the bone is deteriorating, it will spread and deteriorate around healthy teeth and ultimately cause the loss of those teeth like the “domino effect”.

What can I expect after getting my Dental Implant?
After Dental Implant

Dental implants function like natural teeth, so they require the same dental hygiene care. In order to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, you will need to brush and floss regularly. You will need to come in for periodic follow-up visits so we can monitor your implant, teeth, and gums to make sure they are healthy. You will enjoy the benefits of this investment in your quality of life every day for many years to come.

How long could one expect to be off work?

Generally, you can go to work the next day. Only in some circumstances Dr. Sadineni, implant dentist will recommend the day off and the following day after surgery. Also it is recommended that no strenuous exercise is done. You can expect to be slightly swollen.

How much will the implant treatment cost?
